It’s been three years since Liga MX delivered a goal-filled jornada like the one fans just witnessed this weekend. Back in the 2022 Apertura, Matchday 11 saw 34 goals. But just last night, we almost watched that number get blown out of the water, with 31 goals scored across the league in Jornada 3. From Cruz Azul’s Ángel Sepúlveda’s chilena, to Chivas’ Armando “La Hormiga” González netting a brace to rescue a draw, there was no shortage of golazos this weekend. So it begs the question… Is Liga MX entering its prime?

In recent seasons, the league has delivered outrageous signings, moments, and nonstop drama. At this point, it feels like we’ve got half of prime Real Madrid’s starting XI in Mexico (minus Ronaldo, of course), a wave of exciting young Mexican talent lighting up the pitch, and Liguilla moments that live rent-free in every fan's head.

And yet, off the field, you could argue we’re living through a dark chapter in Mexican football:

  • No promotion or relegation

  • Overvaluation of young players, keeping many from moving to Europe

  • A struggling national team

So maybe the real answer depends on how you look at it. Despite the contrast, one thing is clear: Liga MX still knows how to put on a show. So as fans, the best thing we can do is sit back and enjoy.

Next up: Leagues Cup. Let’s see what they can cook up.
