Mexico cruised to a comfortable 4–0 victory over Iceland in their latest friendly, giving fans plenty to talk about. While the scoreline looked dominant, the match offered a few deeper insights into where the team stands under manager Javier Aguirre.

1. Take the result with a grain of salt

Mexico did what it was expected to do against a limited Iceland side. After a competitive opening 15 minutes, Iceland offered very little resistance. It was a professional performance, but not necessarily a defining one.

2. Tala Rangel looks locked in

Goalkeeper Raúl Rangel appears to have earned Aguirre’s trust. The Chivas shot-stopper has started all three friendlies in 2026, signaling that he may be the frontrunner to start for Mexico national football team at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

3. Chivas chemistry showing through

Players from C.D. Guadalajara continue to form the backbone of the squad. Seven were called up, six started, and three found the back of the net. That built-in chemistry could prove valuable on the biggest stage.

4. Lira steps up in midfield

With Edson Álvarez unavailable, Erik Lira delivered a standout performance. His 92% passing accuracy highlighted a composed and confident display in the center of the park.

5. Missed opportunity for the substitutes

Players like Alexis Gutiérrez, Carlos Rodríguez, and Erick Sanchez entered with Mexico already leading 2–0 but failed to make a major impact. With World Cup roster spots on the line, those minutes could have been crucial.

In the end, Mexico handled business. But as the road to 2026 continues, performances—especially from players fighting for roster spots—will only grow more important.
